Baby Teeth Brushing

The process of baby teeth brushing usually starts when your baby’s teeth start to grow. You can expect to see the first teeth to show up within 4 to 9 months and sometimes as late as 18 months.

These first teeth are often referred to as “milk teeth” and require special care. It helps keep a baby feeling as pain free and as comfortable as possible, and it helps these teeth grow in properly.

Brushing Guide

Before these milk teeth even appear you can keep your baby’s gum clean. One way to do this is to take a clean finger and rub along the gum line. This helps remove any milk residue.

Another popular trick that also helps sooth a baby’s gum line is using some ice to get your finger cold and rubbing that along the baby’s gums. This will especially help sooth your baby’s teething pains.

Then, when the first teeth start to show through the gums you can even start teaching your baby to start using the brush. You can first demonstrate a few times on your own, and you can also do this while holding the toothbrush in the baby’s hand.

To start out with you may want to just use a plain toothbrush. However, there are toothpastes that are appropriate for when a baby reaches a certain age.

In any case, it is very highly recommended that you use a teeth cleaning solution that has no fluoride in it. Otherwise, you can very easily cause irritation or other harm to your baby.

All you really need is a very minute dot of toothpaste to cover over your baby’s tiny jaw lines. Besides, at first a baby may not have a full head of teeth to begin with.

Then, put the toothbrush in your baby’s hand, and as mentioned above guide him/her. Your little one is highly likely to pick it up very quickly. You are advised to perform this action twice a day-once in the morning and once in the evening.

Flossing Guide

As far as flossing, it is not highly necessary to do it at such a young age. You could wait until your child is at least a year or two old before doing it. At that time your little one should find this task easier.

However, if you so choose to floss at a young age even your infant may be a bit too young to grasp this concept you can. However, if you so choose it would be better if you do this yourself rather than have someone else do it.

It is better that you do it instead of having your child do it anyway, in case of possible choking or injury. Besides, if you help your infant you are less likely to waste too much floss during the process.

Clothing Thoughts

Exposure to teeth brushing as an infant can instill good habits in your child as he or she grows. It also can help prevent cavities and problems until the milk teeth are ready to fall out and be replaced by permanent teeth.
