Constructor For Kids

It is a given that kids learn through playing all kinds of games. They also learn by way of high-quality development toys.

One of the most common developmental games for children is the kind that requires use of construction blocks. They can build towers or they might stack blocks on top of one another only to see it fall. They may even make and destroy a complete house.

Guiding your Child

There are a variety of constructor games and activities you can engage in with your child. You can start this learning process by handing your child one piece and then you can place the remaining parts around him or her.

You can also explain to your child what material the constructor parts are made of (i.e. wood, plastic, rubber). You can also engage with your child by teaching him or her how to identify colors.

You can also demonstrate to your kid how to connect the parts of the construction blocks or pieces together. You can even encourage your child to build certain shapes and objects such as houses, cars, and more.

Then, you can let your child loose and allow your kid to tap into his or her own creative power. The process of teaching your child how to build on his or her own may take awhile, up to several months.

However, the time spent is well worth it and it can enhance any formal preschool lessons if your kid goes to a day care. This would in fact be a great lesson to use in a day care curriculum.

Additional Tips

When assisting your child in constructor games you should make sure that the building lessons are age appropriate. If the projects are too complex especially for a child who is only age 1 to 3 years old the child can very quickly lose interest.

You should also make sure the constructor parts you use are the right size for your child’s age. For instance, you should be careful not to use blocks and objects that are meant for children over 3 years of age if your child is only 2 years of age or under.

If you use safe constructor parts it will lessen chance of choking and injury. You can even find extra-large interlocking blocks to use for this purpose.

In case you are not sure what age a child can be to use certain parts, usually information is provided by a manufacturer. It often is even printed on the toy packaging (i.e. “good for up to 3 years”).
