Newborn Baby Clothes

One of the anticipations of expecting a baby is in knowing you get to shop for your future little one’s newborn baby clothes. Knowing the sex of your baby in some ways can even make shopping for the right clothes even more fun.

Possible Selections

Newborn baby clothes range from the practical to the fun. Baby romper suits and onesies are among the more practical, and so are the plain cotton clothing items.

Additional items such as dresses lines with ruffles, ribbons, or laces are among the more extravagant pieces. Some dress suits for the baby boy may also be a bit on the excessive but cute site.

Additional items you might find for your baby include cardigans, bonnets, booties, and hates. Some of these are more practical for keeping your baby warm and certain styles also serve a novelty and dress-up purpose.

As far as sleepwear is concerned, besides rompers the pajamas with the feet attached may be helpful. Be careful not to make the baby sweat too much, as it can be just as easy to dress an infant too warm as well as too cold.

The same applies to using baby blankets. Use only as thick as necessary for the time of year. As far as for newborns, warmer pajamas or other bunting-style sleepwear may be more recommended than a blanket as a baby just born can get tangled in it.

Shopping Tips

You should buy yourself and/or put different sizes of clothing on your baby shower registry. It would be ideal to have items ready for 6 months, 9 months, and a year old. You might even request a few items that are 2T or 3T sizes, just to prepare for the fast growth of your baby.

Do not get carried away though. A few items of different sizes for at least up to a year old is ideal. You can also purchase all the newborn and infant sizes a little bit bigger so the baby has room to grow into them.

Of course, when you purchase clothing for special occasions you may not want them to be too loose. However, if you purchase them ahead of time you can anticipate the sizes, but these specialty items you may just want to wait to purchase when the time comes to wear them.

You should realize though that saving money is not the only reason that looser clothing is recommended. Your baby will want to move freely as he or she gets older.

More Advice

It is highly advisable to have some clothing brought to the hospital for when the baby is first born. A list of items you may need for the day the baby is delivered include the following:

  • Baby rompers
  • Sleep suits
  • Blanket
  • Socks and booties
  • Vests and hats
  • Baby towels and wash cloth
  • Outfit and/or heavy romper

You may find some of the washing accessories and blankets available at the hospital. However, you more than likely will have to at least purchase the outfit you need to take it home in and/or the pajamas your baby would sleep in.

You may want to check with your pre-natal and post-natal doctor or nurse. You should just be as well-prepared as possible for the possibility.
