Dressing Your Baby

Dressing your baby can be fun, but it also can be a challenge. The hard part is having to hold the child up while you put on an outfit, especially if it is a one-piece.

Just be patient with your self. Dressing your baby will come easier with time. Also remember while you put your clothes on your baby to be gentle. The best advice you have is to do it slowly, and then use one or more of the tips you are given in the next section.

If you are a first-time parent you may be a little bit lost. If no one is around to help you perhaps just being offered some simple hints would be ideal.

• The best place to change your baby when dressing is on a changing pad. If you have a portable one always take it with you, as well as a blanket to lay over it.
• If it is time to change your baby’s diaper, undress him or her on a nonskid flat surface. This is one way you can keep both hands free.

Additional Advice

Using onesies or other one-piece outfits with snaps or zippers on the sides may make your life easier. A one-piece outfit can be easier to change than a two-piece one depending on how it is made.

Make sure you understand the safety standards regarding baby’s dress as well. You can read any flammable warnings that come with the clothing. You can also read literature that coves the standards as far as the types of materials that are used to make flame-resistant baby clothes.

It helps too if you can carry extra clothing wherever you would go. Find as easy-to-slip-on outfits as possible for when you are traveling in the car long distances. These as well as the other extras you would keep in your diaper bag would help you in case your baby needs to be changed on the road.
